Adobe Brackets Extension – Replace In Selection

Saturday, August 15th, 2015

Here's a simple extension for Adobe Brackets that allows you to do a find/replace all within selected text. This is a feature that I use a lot and I like it more than the default Brackets find/replace behavior. You can get the extension from this direct link, the Brackets Extension Registry or via the extension manager in Brackets itself (shown below). You can access the extension manager through the File menu.

The source code is also available on github.

NHL Draft Simulator

Friday, June 26th, 2015

If you've been following me for any length of time, you probably know that I'm a big NHL fan. As such, with the 2015 NHL draft today in Florida, I decided to try my hand at creating a draft simulator. The program simulates the first 2 rounds of the draft, but it was more complex than I thought going in. In this article, I'll discuss how it works and the challenges I faced with development, as well as ideas for improvements in future versions.

Well, I'm not dead, but I have been MIA here for quite some time. Without going into too much detail, the last few months I've been very busy and haven't had as much time for personal projects as I would like. Luckily this last weekend I had some free time and found a problem to solve. (more…)

Goodbye 2013, Hello 2014

Wednesday, January 1st, 2014

Here we are facing a brand new year ahead. It seems like not long ago I was writing about what I wanted to achieve in 2013 as 2012 came to a close. I love the new year, its good to take some time to reflect on what we've been doing and also on what we wish to accomplish in the future. I'm not quite sure why, but it feels like starting with a clean slate every time. To that end, here's a look at the year that was 2013 and what will be 2014 in my development life. (more…)

In preparation for the (still) upcoming Tetris tutorial, I decided to write a small tutorial for loading images with Javascript. This tutorial will show you how to build a bulk image loading utility that we will use to load the images for our HTML 5 Tetris game. (more…)

After two years in both the iOS and Android app stores, the Jury Duty app has garnered nearly 7000 votes on various political issues. I've decided to pull the app at this point, but wanted to share some of the more interesting results. Let's take a look! (more…)

FGS5 Slides and Presentation Available Online

Friday, April 5th, 2013

I know FGS5 has been behind us for a while now and I've been slow with any updates since. The summit was a blast as usual. It's so great to be among inspiring individuals and people who are passionate about making great Flash games. I especially enjoyed John Cooney's presentation, as well as the panel at the end of the day. If you weren't able to attend the event or watch the live stream, don't worry! All the presentation recordings are available from the FGS5 website! I have noticed some audio issues on a few that make them hard to hear, but overall its pretty good.

You can view my presentation here.

Speaking at Barcamp Orlando…maybe

Monday, April 9th, 2012

This saturday, April 14, is Barcamp Orlando; a non-conference conference. What the heck does that mean? It's an all day event running 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM in downtown Orlando. There will be four rooms for speakers; the kicker is that all the speakers sign up to talk the day of the conference! I've prepared a presentation, an HTML5 slideshow no less, and will arrive early in an attempt to snag a speaking slot (no guarantees).

The presentation is tentatively titled A Better Work Week and goes into the details about the benefits of working a 4 day, 32 hour week instead of the standard 5 day, 40 hour week.

This is something that I feel strongly about and I hope the idea can gain some momentum in the US. If you're in the area please drop by and check it out!
